"I've never considered myself a breeder, but I do have a connection with plants. I've discovered through these small grows that being a breeder is not so much about the science behind it but about the relationship with plants. If you put in the time and the energy to work with them and to create seeds and to grow them out and to select which ones resinate with you, then to me that's breeding. There's many levels that you can take it to, but that connection with the plant is what really fuels more of a passion to continue discovering what you can find in these amazing seeds."
"One of the grows was in my grandma's garage. I had about 12 lights in a 20 x 20 area, and I had some GS Cookies in there growing, and I brought in a Pink Panties seed. At that time, I didn't know how to sex and find out what a male or female was. So I put a plant in the room and was there for about two weeks, and, when I came back in, it had already pollinated the room. I didn't even know what that was. All I saw was a bunch of powder, and I called my friend and asked, 'what happened?' and he said, 'you are going to have many seeds in that room'."
Birth of Sunset Sherbert
"So I was upset, and I thought, 'I've lost all my crop, no one is gonna wanna buy it, it's got seeds...' and it turned out that those were the seeds that made the Sunset Sherbert. I had thousands of seeds from this flower. But what I did was dig into a garbage bag where all my stems were and I scrapped out a handful of seeds from the bottom and I said, 'Well, these seeds aren't any different from the other seeds, so let's try these'. So I popped them in a tray and those are the seeds I selected the Sunset Sherbert out of."
"Where I'm from, in California, there is an ice-cream shop called Thrifty's Ice Cream that has been there for 80-90 years. They've got an amazing flavor called Rainbow Sherbet which has orange, raspberry, and lemon. It has all the different flavors in one. When I first grew out the Sunset Sherbert and I tasted it, I could taste berry, I could taste lime from the OG, and I could taste citrus, orange, terpenes... And so it automatically brought me back to my childhood and to this ice-cream of Rainbow Sherbert. So that's where 'Sherbert' came from (we dropped the 'Rainbow'). But, as we are from the Sunset district in San Francisco, we decided to put that in front of the 'Sherbert' to identify us. So that's where the name comes from: to show homage to SF California, where we're from and where all the growers grew in small garages and continue to grow there 'cause that's the heart of the movement in San Francisco."
"A lot of the best medicine doesn't come from big farms, it comes from small grows, where each night the growers come in, look at their ten plants, pick off leaves and put in all their love to make the absolute best quality cannabis on the planet. This stems from not only Humboldt but from the gardeners that were forced indoors by the police through fear of prosecution. Many people don't understand that the only reason why we're growing inside is 'cause we had to protect ourselves. But slowly the sun is shining again and now, through legalization, we're seeing acres of cannabis being grown again outdoors.
